Here's what I posted on Facebook, on the pages both of IA and HathiTrust:

(Hathi Trust responded and asked for samples, and said they would talk to Google. Internet Archive never responded. I think that if those of us bothered by this go about keeping our voices heard, perhaps chance could be effected, though I do grieve the thought of all those pages that have been lost since their first incompetent scan.)

I doubt I could ever count the number of hours I have sat rapt before your site; it's so thrilling that you're doing what you're doing. Thank you.

I do have a question, for both you and Internet Archive: Can't anybody make Google do decent scans of images? The color images are extremely important to those of us whose field is art history; my digital collection is filled with hundreds, maybe thousands of purple and green moire'd color images and with plenty of checkerboarded black & whites too.

How little respect is shown to artists and art students is amazing, shocking, and philistine. I have often yearned that they go back and redo every color page they've botched with the care they, and we, deserve. Check out some of the titles scanned by Google and also someone else; the difference is shocking.

Can't anybody do something? Presumably, Google wants some respect for all they're doing; they'll find that much easier to find when they respect us first.

(these particular examples were found at Hathi Trust, though they may be here too; and there are plenty just like these here anyway.)

I was looking for this but I just found it. Check out these two. The sad thing is how many more downloads there have been of the Google-ized one, by people who knew no better. They are the same.
